The schedule is out on the SPF web site for Saturday’s rallies, but which is worth going for?
Today is the first weekend rally, where more people should be available to attend. Unfortunately, the majority are PAP rallies. You might as well stay home and watch CNA instead. RP will be doing a repeat performance at West Coast GRC, the response should be better this time.
WP will be holding their rally for East Coast GRC. The WP candidates include veteran Eric Tan, Gerald Giam who is known for his blogging, and Glenda Han, the “original” Nicole Seah. The PAP lineup there includes two ministers, Union Chief Lim Swee Say and Transport Minister Raymond Lim. Low wages and overcrowded public transport are two of the hot topics this General Election. WP appears to be the underdogs there, but it could turn out to be a surprising battle.
SPP will be at Potong Pasir. This time, it’s not Chiam See Tong but his wife, Lina Chiam who will be campaigning. I’ve heard Chiam See Tong speak at the 2006 General Election, and frankly, he is not a good speaker. It is his sincerity to serve the people that has seen him elected into Parliament for the past 27 years. I’ve yet to hear Lina Chiam speak, so this could be an interesting one to attend. I wonder if she will be able to retain the support of the residents there.
But so far, the most gripping rallies have been the SDP ones. The candidates sure know how to work the crowd. At Sembawang GRC, James Gomez will be relishing a clash with health minister Khaw Boon Wan. James Gomez already drew first blood with his “Operation Johor Bahru” plan unveiled at the first SDP rally. But again, the opposition will be the underdog.
Which will you be attending?
